FOOD TECHNOLOGY IN THE FOOD PROCESSING INDUSTRY

     Food Technology is an applied science that involves the commercial
     expertise fundamental to the processing and storing of food safely. A Food
     Technologist has an integral role to play in all aspects of production, from
     farm to the market, such as quality testing, food safety, packing, marketing
     and nutrition.

     The Food Processing Industry has become the largest manufacturing
     sector throughout Australia. It is fully supported by government labour
     market initiatives and is vigorously pursuing value added business
     particularly in developing markets through out Asia.

     To enable the Food Processing Industry to continue to grow and compete
     successfully in highly competitive markets, it requires more qualified people
     with specific training and skills in the discipline of Food Technology.

     Food Technologists have the skills and qualifications to work in a variety of  roles.

     Possible positions  include:

          Analytical laboratories servicing the food processing industry.
          Food manufacturers (production, quality assurance, food safety
          planning, research & development)
          Food research & development laboratories
          Technical sales & marketing throughout the foods industry
          Food technology training
          Food Safety Planing and Training
          Food Safety Auditing

     Some food technologists are eventually
     employed in senior management positions that may involve futher managemnt training.
     Many food technologists  have
     careers with multinational companies allowing them to travel overseas and
     gain a wealth of international experience. Others are
     successfully employed in consultancy firms within the small business
     sector and as private consultants. While some others operate their own small
     food manufacturung businesses
